Aromatherapy Massage

An aromatherapy massage uses either the relaxation massageremedial massage or deep tissue massage techniques with aromatherapy oils mixed into your massage oil to assist the treatment of ailments or enhance relaxation.

Before Mixing
Before mixing any essential oils into your massage oil ensure that the person receiving the massages does not have any allergies, they are not ill, they are not pregnant and they are not children.
Citrus oils should not be used before going out in the sun.
Cinnamon, cloves and rue should not be used on the skin at all.
Aniseed, bay, camphor, hyssop, lemon grass, pennyroyal, sage, savory, tarragon, thuja, thyme and wintergreen should only be used by qualified professionals.
Blending Oils
The essential oils should be added to a quality carrier oil and the most suited oils for aromatherapy massage are almond oil or grapeseed oil.
You should use approximately 5 drops of essential oil to 100mls of carrier oil (almond or grapeseed). Some essential oils are stronger and you will need to use less oil if they are strong.
Relaxing Oils - bergamot, camomile, clary sage, frankincense, geranium, jasmine, lavender, marjoram, neroli, rose and ylang ylang.
Stimulating Oils - basil, cardamon, clove, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, orange, peppermint, rosemary and sandlewood.
Bathing
If you wanted to bath in essential oils approximately 5 to 10 drops can be added to a full bath. If the bath water is too hot the oil will evaporate and be lost, it is best to add the oils to luke warm water.
