The deep tissue massage strokes are intended to reach a deeper layer of muscles in order to release more toxins and break up any scar tissue. The massage strokes are often slower and may include the use of elbows to delve deep into the layers of muscle.
The deep tissue massage can feel uncomfortable at points and you always talk to your masseuse about your comfort level (a massage should never hurt). Breathing long and deeply through out the treatment and through any discomfort will assist with this treatment.
It is suitable for relief from sporting injuries, chronic pain or other long term ailments and should increase mobility. After the massage you may feel sore for up to 48 hours before feeling the benefits of your treatment.
It is important to increase your fluid intake on the day of the massage and for a few days afterwards. The additional fluid assists in expelling the toxins from your body and aids in the repair of the muscles. If you do not drink enough fluids you may feel dehydrated and you will not get the full benefits out of your treatment.
